St. Elizabeth Co-operative Credit Union Limited was established in
the early 1970's by businessmen Stanford Birthwright and Trevor
Myers who identify the need for thrift and a source for loan funds
for the social and economic development for the town of Santa Cruz.
Its first location was on the building of Mr. Birthwright. The
Credit Union was registered on March 21,1972 by the Registrar of
Co-operative and Friendly Societies. The Board later expanded the
operations to the entire parish.

The Head Quarters was opened on September 1989, ALP ART Employees'
Co-operative Credit Union was transferred to STECCUL on October 8,
1986 while Appleton Employees' Co¬operative Credit Union was
transferred on December 11,1995. The Black River branch office was
opened on May 3, 1993. Its newest Junction Branch was opened on
September 12,2005.
The Credit Union is a financial cooperative and credit association
that provides opportunities for members to save in various
instruments. Credit Unions also provide loans to its members at the
lowest possible rates other than would be otherwise available. The
Credit Union is operated for the mutual benefit of its members.
The capital funds of the Credit Union comes from the members, who
provide the capital, by purchase of shares and normally receives
annual dividend on shares on the basis of their investment.
